Please reach out if you are part of a charter and hoping to use funds.  Vendors may choose to get approved for your school.  Currently most vendors are approved with PCA and a few are approved for Elite and JCS.

KINDERGARTEN AND FIRST GRADE CLASSES

K-1st Language Arts with Shannon Van De Vanter

In this class, I will provide a multi-sensory approach to reading.  The comprehensive program I teach includes letter recognition, learning beginning sounds, word families, writing, beginning-to-reading skills, vocabulary and comprehension. I believe in making learning fun with arts-n-crafts, hands on activities, games, singing, show-n-tell, story time and more!

K-1st Art with Rebecca Newell

In my art class we will look at famous artwork in history and follow it with an art project that embraces the style of art we are studying.  I use a variety of art materials and mediums in the classroom including chalk pastels, oil pastels, watercolor, acrylic paints and more. – Becca

Dive into the fascinating world of animals with our expanding Animal Study! Each unit is filled with captivating lessons, hands-on activities, and paired worksheets that ignite curiosity and inspire active learning. These animal studies go beyond just science by integrating reading and writing exercises to encourage cross-curricular exploration.

Throughout the course, students will explore a variety of animals from different habitats, including bats, owls, turkeys, penguins, polar bears, whales, coyotes, chickens, rabbits, frogs, ladybugs, and butterflies.  We will learn about habitats, lifecycles, adaptations and lots of interesting facts about our animal kingdom.

K-1st Outdoor Explorers with Shannon Van De Vanter

This class will focus on sports and group games involving imagination, physical activity and skills.  Children will be encouraged to connect with nature and enhance team building while bonding in the great outdoors (some days will be spent at the beach learning about ocean life and all its beautiful wonders). Parents must complete an off campus wavier.

K-1st Mind and Heart (Social Emotional Learning) with Wendy Yen

This Mind and Heart Social Emotional Learning class is filled with hands-on, mindful activities designed to help students build essential social skills and emotional awareness.  Through a mix of games, stories, crafts, discussions, and journaling, students will explore a variety of SEL topics including Kindness, respect, gratitude, responsibility, goal-setting, conflick resolution, feelings, and fostering a growth mindset.

This course is a continuation from last year and is perfect for both returning and new students. Whether students are building on skills learned previously or starting fresh, they will gain valuable tools to navigate their emotions, improve relationships, and set personal goals.

K-1st Yoga and Garden with Shannon Van De Vanter

Yoga – Increase focus, add flexibility and strength, increase body awareness and connection to breath in a playful and fun outdoor environment.

Gardening – Children will engage in fun activities that explore plant life cycles, examine plant diversity, and investigate the interdependence between plants and humans.  Students will help plant and care for the Hub garden boxes.  We will also care for the worm bin to help fertilize our garden. Dirt don’t hurt and worms don’t either…..:)

2nd-3rd Songwriting Class with Rheanna Downey

  • Wednesdays 9:00am-10:00am $288/semester (Cash or check only)
  • Students need their own ukulele and guitar.

All uke, guitars and vocalists welcome. For this class we will be working on the discipline of songwriting using all of our musical and writing skills. This is a creative class with the structure of theory, chord progression, rhythm and structured writing. We will choose themes as a class and learn through the fun of inspiration. All levels welcome.

2nd-3rd Drama with Rebecca Newell

This is an introductory drama class.  The first two week of the semester we enjoy warm-up games and improvisational exercises.  Next, we choose a play that fits our class, have a class read through, the top 3 character picks and in-class auditions.  The remainder of the semester is dedicated to play practice and set design.  There are two mandatory after-school practices leading up to the final performance at the end of the semester.

2nd-3rd Cooking from around the World with Rebecca Newell, Milly Haynes, and Shannon Van De Vanter

  • 2nd/3rd graders can enroll in cooking or Mind and Heart (see below description)

Students will learn a little history and geography while cooking up a storm. This class will explore both sweet and savory dishes from countries and cultures around the world and even back-in-time. Our chefs will learn how to read recipes, maintain a clean workspace, and practice safe cooking. The goal is to foster a love for cooking and above all else, have a wonderful time.

2nd-3rd Mind and Heart with Wendy Yen

This class is designed to make learning math engagin and interactive by using games and hands-on activities. Students will explore mathematical concepts through fun challenges that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration.  Key math topics will also be introduced/reviewed.  Some favorite games are ZEUS on the Loose, Racko, Jump 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8, Farkle, Blokus, ADSUMUDI, Bingo… Various STEM projects will also be introduced to encourage team work and creativity.

Welcome to our exciting journey through time with the “Who Was” series! In this course, students will dive into the lives of fascinating historical figures, from inventors and scientists to artists and leaders. Through engaging discussions, interactive activities, and creative projects, students will discover the stories behind these remarkable individuals and their contributions to the world.

Throughout the year, students will explore different “Who Was” biographies, delving into the lives and accomplishments of iconic figures. Last year we learned about Galileo, Amelia Earhart, Jackie Robinson, George Washington, Jim Henson and Hellen Keller. (Book choices will be chosen to connect learning in other courses taken at the Hub, as well as based on class interest.) Through guided reading sessions and group discussions, students will learn about the challenges these individuals faced, the achievements they made, and the impact they had on our world.

In addition to reading and discussing the biographies, students will participate in hands-on activities and projects inspired by the lives of the featured historical figures. They might create inventions like Thomas Edison, design artwork like Leonardo da Vinci, or conduct science experiments like Marie Curie.

Through this book study, students will not only develop a deeper understanding of history but also enhance their reading comprehension, critical thinking skills, and creativity. By the end of the course, students will have a newfound appreciation for the diverse individuals who have shaped our world and the power of their own potential to make a difference. Join us on this exciting adventure as we explore history with the “Who Was” series!

This hands-on Introduction to Physics course is designed to make complex concepts both accessible and exciting for younger students. Through engaging readings, interactive experiments, and a strong emphasis on the scientific method, students will explore fundamental principles such as matter, motion, friction, work, sound and waves, magnetism, electricity, and even get a taste of the fascinating world of quantum physics.

The course highlights real-world applications, helping students understand how these concepts connect to their daily activities and experiences. Each lesson promotes critical thinking and equips students with the tools to apply scientific knowledge in a fun and meaningful way. A $45 material fee is required, with $35 of this amount covering the cost of a R.E.A.L. Science Odyssey student notebook, purchased directly from Pandia Press.

4th-6th+ Drawing, Painting and Ceramics with Pete Liapes

4th-6th Young Leaders in Action – Leadership Class with Wendy Yen

In this exciting class, we will combine leadership skills with Social Emotional Learning. Students will develop essential skills such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving while making a meaningful impact at Hub4Homeschool and in their everyday lives.  Throughout this course, students will participate in hands-on projects to organize and support learning center events and activities, all while strengthening leadership qualities like growth mindset, self-regulation, self-awareness, kindness, respect, and responsibility.

As student leaders, they will take charge of planning and coordinationg spirit days and events, fostering a strong sense of community and school pride.  This class encourages creativity, responsibilty, and collaboration, empowering students to become confident leaders both inside and outside the classroom.

  • Depending on the weather and desired activites, we will either walk down to Moonlight Beach or stay at the Hub.  We will explore different activities including: Beach soccer, wiffle ball, kickball, GAGA ball, volleyball, tag, sprints, relays, dodgeball, and other outdoor games.
